When we are facing overwhelming circumstances, and the odds of success or victory appear to be greatly stacked against us, remember that God is with us and fights for us in our battles. The 20th chapter of 2 Chronicles recounts a powerful story of how God fought for and delivered the nation of Israel against a great army gathered together to destroy it.
King Jehoshaphat sought the Lord and proclaimed a fast for all the people of Judah to ask God for help. Before the people of Judah he prayed: “O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.” Speaking through His prophet Jahaziel, God responded: “Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's. Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.”... “Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.”
Then Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the Lord and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: "Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever." As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated. The armies attacking Israel began to fight against each other until there was not one of them left alive to threaten Israel!
We can learn much from this story! When we are faced with overwhelming situations, understand that the outcome is not hopeless. We can call upon the LORD our God for Help - He will be with us and fight for us. We can believe God and trust Him to help us and to deliver us according to His perfect will in every situation we encounter. Understanding and believing this truth, we can Praise The Lord for the victory - even before we see it! Our victory is certain – for who can thwart God’s will concerning His children! AMEN!
