Ancient Words For Today - 1 John 4:18

This verse is about the fear many people have concerning death and God’s ensuing judgment and punishment of sin. The New Living
Translation makes this very clear:
And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face Him with
confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world. Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear.
If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. 1 John 4:17-18

The love of God was made known at Calvary’s cross: but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. Romans 5:8-9

If we have trusted in Jesus for our salvation, our sins have been forgiven, and we should have no fear of being punished on the day of judgment.
The more we understand the incredible perfect love of God for us and believe His promises, the more God’s love will change us and flow through
our lives towards others. As His love is perfected in us, our fear is removed.

God’s love and forgiveness are now available to everyone! But for those who reject God’s forgiveness through faith in Jesus, their fear of God’s
judgment will one day become a reality when they die and stand before God. They will be without excuse. God’s eternal punishment for their sins
will be upon them. For this reason it is vitally important that we, who have been perfected in His love, share God’s love and plan of forgiveness
and salvation with those who have not yet understood and believed.
