We generally picture a stronghold as a heavily defended fortress providing protection, survival and security against enemy forces. A stronghold can also be an invisible protective wall we build around our beliefs or emotions. This type of stronghold can be good or bad, depending on the nature of what we are protecting. For example, standing on God's Word is a stronghold we build that will protect and defend us against the spiritual attacks of others who walk in spiritual darkness. But any strongholds we build to defend wrong or sinful beliefs, values or practices are destructive, will hold us captive like a prison, and create great resistance to God's truth, and our ability to change our way of living. There is one stronghold we all can run to, regardless of the nature of our trouble. That stronghold is God Himself, who loves us and is mighty to save and deliver us!
