Ancient Words For Today - Philippians 4:19

Often when we pray, we ask God to provide the necessities of life, and then add to our requests those things we think are needed to
make our life easier, happier, more content and peaceful. But God knows our real and innermost needs much better than we do, and
answers our prayers accordingly. When the disciples asked Jesus how they should pray, He said; “Your Father knows exactly what
you need even before you ask him! Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom
come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we
have forgiven those who sin against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
Matthew 6:9-13 (NLT)

This was not meant to be a prayer we thoughtlessly recite over and over again, but is a model outlining some important issues and content
our prayers should include. The first part is acknowledging God as our Holy Heavenly Father and giving praise and honor to His name.
We can thank and praise God for His blessings and the many things He has already done for us. And we can desire and seek to know His
will for our life and how we are to accomplish it. Next is the section asking God to provide our daily bread (the necessities of life which He
gives us). The remainder concerns confessing and seeking forgiveness for our sins - to keep our fellowship strong with God, and seeking
His protection and deliverance from temptation and evil as we daily walk with Him.

God does not always grant all things we think we need and ask for. But He always provides what we really need, and gives us wisdom,
guidance and power to walk closely with Him, and the resources necessary for us to accomplish His will and purpose for our life, as He
builds our character and makes us more like Himself.
