The Way of the Lord does not come naturally to us. In fact, we all are born with a rebellious nature that is spiritually separated from God and that seeks its own way, not the Lord’s way. We inherited that fallen, rebellious, self-serving nature from our ancient relatives-in-common, Adam and Eve. When they sinned by disobeying God’s commandment, the perfect, harmonious and wonderful relationship they had enjoyed with God from the beginning of their creation was severed and everything drastically deteriorated. They instantly became guilt-ridden and fearful of God. They even fled and tried to hide from God, who loved them so much. Because of their willful sin, the curse of God came upon them resulting in many hardships in life, pain and suffering, and ultimately physical death for them and all their descendants. The entire creation, the earth and all flesh upon it, also became corrupted as a result of their sin. We see today a tainted world, showing only a faint glimmer of the beauty and splendor of God’s original creation. The harmony and loving relationship that man had once enjoyed with God remains broken by sin.
