Ancient Words For Today - Psalm 116:5

The Lord our God is righteous. This means He is morally perfect and perfectly just in His judgments, without flaws and without sin. And He loves us
with a perfect love. God created man in His own image. Adam and Eve lived in total harmony with God and enjoyed uninterrupted fellowship with him.
But everything drastically changed when they listened to and believed Satan’s lies. He told them God was holding back something good from them and
that the fruit God had forbidden them to eat would not certainly cause their death (as God had warned), but rather would actually make them wise and
they would become like God, knowing good and evil. When Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating the forbidden fruit, immediately they experienced
guilt, shame and separation from God. They realized they were naked, became fearful of God’s judgment, tried to cover themselves with leaves, and hid
from God. Their unrighteous behavior fell short of God’s righteous standard. Their relationship and fellowship with God was broken because of their sin.
All of their descendants, including us, inherited their sinful nature which separated all mankind from God, and ultimately results in physical death.

But God is merciful and gracious, and does not want anyone to perish or be separated from Him. God’s plan to reconcile sinful man to Himself is rooted
in His great love for us. God’s judgment for our sins fell upon Jesus, who willingly died on the cross in our place, so that God’s mercy and grace could
be poured out on us, and the righteousness of Jesus could be accounted to us by our faith in Him. Through our faith in Jesus our sins are forgiven and
we receive eternal life as a free gift from God. Here are two scriptures explaining God’s divine plan to take away our sin and reconcile us to Himself. We
call it the Gospel, which means good news - for those who in faith accept and receive it:

For he hath made him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21

But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ,
(by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come
he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus
unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:4-10
