Ancient Words For Today - Psalm 37:11

Jesus quoted this Psalm in His sermon on the mount (see Matthew Chapter 5). He said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
The definition of meek encompasses the
attributes of being poor or lowly in spirit (not prideful, haughty or arrogant) and humility (indicating an attitude of quiet, reverent and humble submission to the
will and purpose of God). Jesus, speaking to the multitudes, referred to Himself as being meek saying: “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke
is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

Jesus, who is almighty in power, at the same time demonstrated a meek spirit. Remember His prayer in the garden of Gethsemane when He submitted Himself
to the Father’s perfect will, which was to suffer and die on the cross for our sake. Christians are likewise to be meek in spirit. In fact, meekness is a fruit of the spirit:
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23
If people you know were to characterize you, do you think the attribute of meekness would come to their mind?
